On the afternoon of November 18th, the 170th "Cuiying Forum" organized by the Academic Affairs Office of Lanzhou University and the School of Politics and International Relations was held at C302 in Tianshantang. Invited by the School and the School of Politics and International Relations, Zhang Xiyun, former ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, as the keynote speaker of this lecture, gave a detailed analysis of the political changes in Ukraine. Professor Wang Jinguo, Dean of the School of Politics and International Relations hosted the lecture.
Ambassador Zhang gave a detailed introduction of Ukraine's foreign policy and listed a series of agreements signed by Ukraine for demonstration. After reviewing the political situation in Ukraine in chronological order, he also told some stories about major events during the Ukraine crises he’d experienced personally. He analyzed the causes of the political changes in Ukraine from the three levels of economy, national identity and geopolitics. He also explained China’s position in this event, while not interfering in Ukraine’s internal affairs, respecting the integrity of Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty, and respecting the choice and dignity of the Ukrainian people. When referring to the bilateral relationship between China and Ukraine, he claimed that the key to solving the crisis lies in taking care of the interests of all parties. After the lecture, Professor Wang Jinguo, on behalf of SPIR, expressed his thanks to the Ambassador Zhang Xiyun.
The lectures enabled the students to further understand the political changes in Ukraine and stimulated the students' interest in the international politics.
